Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Documents of World Intellectual Property Organization

Project Executive: Behrouz Vojdani

Discussions around "Intangible Cultural Heritage" was first raised by UNESCO before entering the cultural literature of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Today, all global organizations and cultural institutions and organizations that work on cultural heritage and traditional and local cultures of countries are familiar with the term “intangible cultural heritage”, its fields and its distinction from tangible cultural heritage. The author has studied Intangible Cultural Heritage, which includes all aspects of the immaterial cultural heritage. The content of this research was developed by studying cultural documents and reports of WIPO’s specialized meetings and its publications in the fields of folklore, traditional knowledge, copyrights and music.

Since this research is an "applied" study, its contents have been presented simply and clearly, along with case studies applicable to Iran, which allows the cultural and artistic planners and managers to use ???. This research is divided into the following sections:

1. The first section contains theoretical content that provides a better understanding of the second section.

2. The second section contains the following three chapters:

  • The first chapter includes actions taken by Iranian ministries and institutions involved in intangible cultural heritage, copyrights and music fields.
  • The second chapter addresses music copyright, its violation and implementation problems in Iran
  • The third chapter talks about cultural activities, conventions and cultural treaties of the WIPO, in particular the two prominent cultural conventions (i.e. Bern and Rome Conventions) in order to enhance the readers’ understanding of these issues.
